Being Creative

I've been thinking about what it means to be a writer; the ups and downs, as well as the triumphs and defeats (aka rejections). I have to wonder why I do this, sometimes. What drives me? I decided that I'm one of those lucky ones who not only has a creative streak, but has discovered the best way to express that. I've been looking through old blog posts from another blog of mine (http://stephenoliverblog.com), and I realised that this one is just as relevant now as it was a few years ago. So…Read more

Interview

I was recently interviewed for a podcast and Internet radio station, here in the UK. We talked about a book I self-published some years ago, as well as the experience of being a writer. The interview took place over several days due to technical problems obtaining a coherent recording. This explains the somewhat different timbres and tones of the various sections. I found it an exciting experience because I had no idea what the questions would be, nor how I was going to answer. You see, I'm a Pantser even when I'm talking…Read more

Computer Voices

I've been doing some experimenting recently in connection with a project I am working on. I discovered software that will allow me to enter text to create computer-generated voices. I am thinking of using them to make short training audiobooks. Three of the voices appealed to me for various reasons. One is British, the other two are American with different accents. I have a personal preference, but I would like to know what other people think. To this end, I used the software to create recordings of last month's blog post, "Becoming a…Read more

Becoming a Writer

Some time ago, I received an email in connection with a post I made on the TUT Writer’s Group on Facebook. The writer asked me about how to become a writer. I wrote them the following reply. When it comes to writing, I would like to know where your writer’s block lies, so that I can give you more targeted advice. However, I can give you the following points, to begin with. What sort of writing do you want to do? Do you intend to write fiction or non-fiction? I do both, and each needs…Read more

Hello!

I imagine that my posts will probably be somewhat erratic, as I am busy with so many other tasks on the journey, but I promise that they will be interesting.Read more
